At the end of October, we organized a charity baking event, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, where we featured Chocolate Rocky Road, Lemon Drizzle, Banana Cake, Choccy Nutty Cookies, Almond & Vanilla Cupcakes with Irish Cream Buttercream amongst other donated baked lovelies :-)
The donations were extremely generous and I couldn't help but feel proud of being part of such a worthy cause. I wish I could say that I'd always dreamt of supporting Macmillan, but the idea actually fell on my lap in a moment when the last thing I was feeling was charitable :-(
Here's a brief background, just to encourage someone that there's a lot of good that could come out of an annoyingly desperate situation.
I applied for a passport renewal a few months back, and for some reason, the embassy in question (I won't name them) had a crazy amount of delay which meant countless trips to the post office, phone calls, emails and prayers on my part. Did I forget to mention I was due to travel? Anyway, the countdown to 5 days before my flight and I had to make a desperate decision to travel to London where I would spend the whole day (very emotionally draining day) waiting for my document to be processed.
Alas, it was on my way to the embassy, whilst seated on a Northern line carriage praying for success, I spotted an advert for "the World's Biggest Coffee morning", and that's when the light bulb came on in my head. Thankfully I got my travel documents the same day and once back from my trip, I began planning what turned out to be a truly rewarding event.
